M. Night Shyamalan’s more recent films seem to share qualities with their director: bold, unappologetic, dramatic, and bordering on the absurd. This film fits all of those qualities to be sure. It is also, I submit, perfectly entertaining, well-executed, and a pleasure for the eyes. It’s a film that has received a lot of criticism. I suspect that history will show that that reaction is better explained by how fashionable it is to dislike Mr. Shyamalan, and that this film, while not destined to every be considered a masterpiece, will be more fairly judged, along with its creator.
