If you were to cross the scripts of The Karate Kid and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, then ask your casting director to find the teenage version of Fred Savage from The Wonder Years, you would end up with The Forbidden Kingdom. The visual spectacle of the effects and stunt choreography, as well as the slapstick antics of Jet Li and Jackie Chan are sufficient reasons to watch this otherwise forgettable film. The teen hero character of Jason Tripitikas, both as scripted and as performed by Michael Angarano, is nearly annoying enough to pass on the experience in lieu of watching The Karate Kid (which at least you expect to be cheesy) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
